Canadians are worried that health care costs are growing out of control, and many would be open to such controversial measures as fees for doctors' visits to help curb those costs, a new Ipsos-Reid poll has found.

The poll also found that two in three Canadians would accept changes that would allow them to buy health care insurance for treatment in private facilities.

Regardless of whether you are fan of President Barack Obama’s health-care reforms, it was downright impressive to see Americans instigate and survive a massive overhaul of their system in a matter of months. North of the border, public discussion of health care, let alone actual reform, is as muted as it is incremental.

The Aurea Foundation announced today the resolution and presenters for the fifth semi-annual Munk Debate to be held in Toronto on Monday, June 7th.

To encourage a far-ranging discussion of one of the key policy questions facing Canadians, the future of their healthcare system, the debate will have as its resolution: be it resolved, I would rather get sick in the U.S. than Canada
