Friday Focus: Joe Biden resists calls to step down and incumbent governments face a reckoning
On this week’s Friday Focus podcast Janice and Rudyard discuss Joe Biden’s reluctance to step down as the Democratic candidate in the face of growing dissent in the party. Are Washington’s elites betraying the American public by insisting he stay on despite his obvious cognitive decline and diminished chance of winning against Trump in November? Rudyard and Janice move on to Canadian politics where Justin Trudeau is refusing calls to step down after a by-election upset that saw the Conservatives win in a Toronto Liberal stronghold they have held for 30 years. They then discuss widespread voter anger – from France to England to Canada and the US – at incumbent governments who are being blamed for falling living standards due to wage stagnation and inflation. They round out the discussion by addressing Labour’s massive victory in the UK elections – but warn that a change in government will not be able to fix a broken system.
