About the Debate

Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20th. To his detractors, a second Trump term presents a clear and present danger to U.S. democracy, individual rights and America’s place in the world. The legal and administrative guardrails that restrained Trump in his first term are gone leaving a vengeful President free to wield his immense executive powers against his enemies, plant loyalists in positions of power, financially reward his cronies, deport millions of Americans, and generally operate like the autocrat he has long aspired to be. His supporters say these fears are grossly exaggerated and not rooted in reality. Trump was democratically elected by the majority of Americans. He will honour his commitment to voters and close the borders, protect and reward workers, restore U.S. deterrence, and take on a “deep state” that has serially abused America’s rights and institutions. In short, Trump will restore America to its rightful place as the world’s most successful and powerful democracy.
